On Monday, I had 2 of my 4 drains removed. All 4 were supposed to come out because “most patients get them removed after 5 days.” Not this one 😂 As we have clearly seen, my body doesn’t respond like most patients’ bodies. So, I need to come back on Tuesday to (hopefully) get the final 2 drains removed.
If they are still going strong, I will need to postpone my trip back home because the drain holes need roughly 24 hrs to close up, and that needs to happen before I get on a plane. As I was giving my bestie this update yesterday, she commented on how calm I was considering I may need to change my flight and find new accommodations since the Airbnb I’d booked is unavailable after Wednesday. She knows me well enough to know this calm, laid back response is unlike me 😂 I responded that there’s nothing I can do about the drains, but everything else has a solution. I am remarkably privileged to have access to the funds needed to not only have a procedure like this, but to pay for a last minute change in plans. I have a solution for all the issues that come with an itinerary change, but there’s nothing I can do to slow down these drains. So, I make a plan B and C and hope for the best. What else can I do?
I went about the day as usual. I engaged in a bit of retail therapy on the way to my final hyperbaric oxygen treatment in the afternoon. I ended my day with my usual evening stroll through the neighborhood, and got a jump start on the packing. The drains were looking good, and I’m hopeful they’ll come out on Tuesday. That means I’m one day closer to a shower and going HOME!
