Day 2 started out with me waking up at 4 am after sleeping at 1 am. These meds have me idling high. After pacing the room for a few hours, I decided to have breakfast and a mini spa day. You know I love my skincare regimen. So, I spent some time rubbing in my various lotions and potions and wrapped myself in a fluffy robe to marinate while waiting to be discharged.

Yes, I went home today. I’m able to do everything by myself…get in and out of bed, use the washroom, walk around. The surgery recovery center helps you with those things and monitors your vitals. I have a brilliant RN with me, and I can move on my own. So, I asked to be discharged early.
I had my first post op appt this morning. It’s a standard appointment to check on the drains and incisions and to see how I’m feeling. The nurse was happy with my progress. Drains are filling, pain is managed, and I’m getting my steps in as requested. We had to size down in the compression leggings since the pair from yesterday was starting to get baggy. That was not fun, but I survived it, and I have on a smaller pair that has lead to more output from the drains.
On the way out we ran into the surgeon, and he asked if we had a few minutes to look at some pics and videos from surgery. He was so excited to show us what they found in these legs. Once I get the videos and pics, I will post a link for those who aren’t faint of heart. It was wild. Typically if you have a lot of fibrotic tissue, the nodules get caught up in the dense tissues. This makes them very hard to remove. On the flip side, if you’re a giver, you have nodules that pour out when extracted. Apparently I have a bit of both, which is rare. I’m a fibrotic giver…the lipedema medical marvel. Additionally, he found nodules in my thigh that he’s not used to seeing in the thigh area. He was rushing to his next appointment so this was just a spoiler for Friday’s appointment. At that time, he’ll give me a full breakdown of what happened in surgery.

The rest of the day was uneventful as I settled back into the Airbnb for the next week. I’m so pleased and thankful at how recovery is progressing. I’ve scaled back on the nerve blocker because of how it makes me feel. So for now, I’m managing the pain with Tylenol and ibuprofen. So far, so good. We’ll see what tomorrow brings!
